Cadillac is a car brand that has become synonymous with luxury driving. But who owns Cadillac and is Cadillac GM? Simply put, Cadillac is a division of General Motors. Its main markets include the United States, Canada as well as China.
That said, Cadillac also sells its cars in 34 other markets around the world. Cadillac has been in the automotive business for a long time being surpassed only by General Motors, Buick as well as the Autocar Company.
Cadillac was bought by General Motors in 1909. Even then the car company had already built a name for itself when it comes to luxury vehicles.
Let’s find out more about Cadillac. For easier navigation throughout this post, please feel free to use our table of contents below.
Cadillac offers a variety of luxury models to suit the tastes and preferences of different buyers in the automotive market. If you are looking for the perfect Cadillac, there is a good chance that you will find the right model.
Now that we’ve answered the question is Cadillac GM, let’s take a look at the Cadillac model lineup to help you find the best and favorite model for you.
One of the more popular Cadillac models is the CT4. This one offers great acceleration and superb handling. That said, one of the major drawbacks is that for a luxury vehicle, its interior doesn’t feel so posh.
However, you can choose between several powertrain choices, has a great infotainment system with easy Bluetooth pairing, a comfortable and well-balanced ride as well as plenty of safety features.
Some other reasons you may want to avoid the Cadillac CT4? Well, the back seats feel a little cramped, and the trunk isn’t all that spacious.
If you are looking for a luxury midsized car, you may want to check out the Cadillac CT5. This model has a lot going for it.
For instance, it offers a great and comfortable driving experience, great driver assistance options, an infotainment system that is simple and responsive, and for a luxury car model, it is quite affordable.
On the flip side, the Cadillac CT5 doesn’t offer the most powerful powertrain with the 4-cylinder option, and the trunk feels a bit small. The passenger cabin also feels cheap and less luxurious.
That said, you can get great performance with V6 and the V8 engine options.
Some people after finding out is Cadillac GM, want an SUV that isn’t all that huge, like the Cadillac Escalade. In comes the Cadillac XT4. Even with its small size the XT4 still offers plenty of interior space and you will not feel cramped at all when traveling with the whole family.
There is also plenty of cargo space to pack all of your belongings when traveling. This car is also not short of a long list of cool features.
However, there are still a few things that may make you pass the Cadillac XT4. Unlike its bigger brother the Escalade, the XT4 doesn’t have that luxurious and posh feel. Furthermore, its acceleration is not that great and the engine is a bit noisy.
What we saw in the XT4 is also what you find in the XT5. The interior cabin doesn’t feel posh and luxurious, and the quality of the materials is not what you would expect from a luxury SUV.
The ride quality is also not that impressive, and the handling at corners is average.
That said, it is not all bad for the Cadillac XT5. For one, there is still plenty of internal space and the cargo space is also good. The Cadillac XT5 also does well when it comes to fuel efficiency.
If you are looking to buy a car, the Cadillac XT6 will offer you plenty of space. Whether it’s traveling with your family or packing plenty of bags and gear, space shouldn’t be anything to worry about with the model.
This model also offers some great features and its infotainment system is highly responsive and user-friendly.
On the downside, the powertrain performance isn’t all that great, and the interior doesn’t feel all that opulent. For a luxury brand, the Cadillac XT6 fails to deliver with its passenger cabin.
Many people who want a Cadillac Escalade wonder is Cadillac GM. Perhaps your taste is more on the large luxury SUV side. If so, then the Cadillac Escalade is worth a look. Unlike the previous two models that we looked at, you will not worry about space with the Escalade.
Furthermore, the interior does hold up to its luxury SUV popularity and feels quite opulent. Simply put the Cadillac Escalade feels top quality, offers a comfortable and luxurious interior and has a great ride.
You also get an advanced and highly responsive infotainment system. Anything you can expect from a luxury SUV you pretty much get with the Cadillac Escalade.
That said, this model also comes with its share of drawbacks. If you choose the V8 engine, for instance, let’s just say the fuel efficiency isn’t all that great.
The Cadillac CTS is one of those sports sedans that come with all the features that a buyer can expect from this caliber of vehicle. This includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the like.
The driving is superb too thanks to its direct steering system and well-balanced suspension that allow the car to handle curves on the road like a pro.
But there are a few drawbacks with the Caddy CTS. First off let’s talk about the interior spacing. This feels a bit lacking especially at the back.
The interior also doesn’t feel luxurious as many other European brands such as BMW or Mercedes in the same niche. Now that we’ve answered the question is Cadillac GM, let’s consider a few specs of the CTS model.
The Cadillac CTS comes in a variety of powertrains. You can opt for the case model which features a 268hp four-cylinder engine.
There is also the 3.6-liter V6 engine with 335 horsepower. And if you are in for a little bit or a lot more kick, then you can opt for a 420 twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter engine.
The Cadillac CTS doesn’t exactly have good ratings when it comes to fuel efficiency. There are other models that are able to offer the same performance or better and much better fuel efficiency.
For instance, while the 3.6 liter V6 claims to do an average of 30 miles per gallon, real word testing will show 27 miles per gallon.
Away from the question is Cadillac GM and onto the ATS. The Cadillac ATS is one of those models that will not disappoint you when it comes to performance. While featuring a four-cylinder engine, this engine also features a turbocharger.
For lovers of power and performance, you also have the option of getting the ATS with a V6 engine. This can allow you to get up to 335 HP.
The one thing about Cadillacs is that they come with a mixed reputation among car buyers. Granted some people are die-hard fanatics and can’t stay without a Cadillac.
There is a demographic of buyers, however, who have lost their love for Cadillacs claiming that the brand lost its spark.
It all comes down to a matter of taste and preference.
With the Cadillac ATS, you have the option of the two-door coupe or the 4 door version. For the price, the model has plenty of power under the hood.
It also offers plenty of features such as an adjustable sunroof, leather seats, and adaptive headlights.
It can also reach speeds of 189 miles per hour.
Speaking of…
Starting with the all-important safety features, you get anti-lock brakes, knee airbags, as well as overhead bags. The goal was to ensure that the driver was well protected in case there was an accident.
Then there is climate control. The ATS features a dual-zone climate control system. This is able to change and maintain the cabin temperature without the driver having to control it.
All the driver needs to do is to set the desired or preferred temperature and the climate control system will adjust the temperature to this level. This ensures a constant internal temperature regardless of the conditions outside.
The infotainment system in the Cadillac ATS is also pretty cool. It features Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. Furthermore, you also get voice recognition and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
This lets you remain connected whenever you are on the road. Furthermore, you can ensure that the heads are always on the steering wheel.

For those searching for a fuel-efficient ride, the Cadillac ATS is not the one to go for. You can also be forgiven for saying that the fuel economy is below average.
Look at it this way. The Cadillac ATS offers 17 miles per gallon in the city. When on the highway, it offers 25 miles per gallon. On average this comes to 24 miles per gallon.
Now, considering that the industry standard is 25 miles per gallon, the Cadillac ATS is clearly below the industry average.
There is no denying that the ATS was one of the more awesome models by Cadillac and it definitely stood out. However, it was discontinued in 2019.
Cadillac produced the ATS model back in 2012 to fill the small car niche and as an alternative to the CTS.
The model was downright handsome and offered nice powertrain options under the hood. Simply put, the ATS could perform.
However, the strange thing is that even with all the cool features and the smaller size, the general public did not take to it as it did its bigger brother. This is exactly why Cadillac decided to phase out the ATS for the larger sedans such as the CTS and the CT6.
Let’s move away from the question is Cadillac GM for a bit and take a look at an iconic model from the past. The Cadillac Fleetwood is one of those models that will never get old even in 2022. The first thing that you will notice with the Fleetwood is its classic shape and design.
The Cadillac Fleetwood was a luxury model that was made from 1976 to 1996. This model featured a rear-wheel drive system from 1984 to 1992. The models that came afterward from 1992 featured front-wheel drive.
When it comes to the sound, the comfort, and the style, the Cadillac Fleetwood takes one back to the classic Cadillacs of the 50s and 60s. By the time the model was discontinued, the Fleetwood was the longest car that was in production in America.
Furthermore, the Cadillac Fleetwood, particularly the 1996 model featured better handling and was more fuel-efficient than the previous models.
But what caused such an iconic car to no longer be a feature at Cadillac’s production line? Well, it all came down to American tastes and preferences. There were more efficient European and Japanese cars in the market that attracted American consumers.
Let’s take a much closer look at the Cadillac Fleetwood.
This car looks exactly how you would expect it to look – a mature and great evolution of a classic car. Being almost 19 feet in length and over 6 feet in width this car is large and has a boxy frame.
And if you think that is not enough for you to notice the car, there is the front grill and the bumpers that are coated with shiny chrome.
Furthermore, there is nice trimming on the windows and the mirrors. There are also the upholstered whitewall tires that just stand out.

The car’s interior looks just as stylish as the exterior of the Cadillac Fleetwood. First off is the space. You’ll not see many other cars with this amount of space.
You have over 5 feet of shoulder room whether you sit at the front or back. Then there are the well-upholstered leather seats that are just so comfortable.
You get lumbar support that is adjustable and heating elements in the front seats. While you can adjust each side of the seat as you see fit, you also get the usual cup holders on the center armrest.
There is a place where you can store your smartphone and you also get a space to store your CDs and cassettes. Well, it is an older model after all.
You get a couple of good safety features even with a car this old.
We are talking anti-lock brakes as well as traction control. There is an airbag for both the driver as well as the front passenger.
Under the hood of the Cadillac Fleetwood is a 5.7-liter V8 engine. This vehicle with its 250-horsepower engine is certainly not underpowered.
You will get enough power regardless so the terrain whether you are going uphold or downhill. It also features an automatic 4-speed transmission that engages easily and smoothly.
Furthermore, you can also get the Fleetwood with a trailer towing package. You will be able to tow up to 7000 pounds this is really impressive for a sedan.
Is Cadillac GM? Well, the Cadillac electric or to be more specific the Cadillac Lyriq is General Motors’ entrance into the electric car market. One thing is for sure, they really came in with a bang.
The Cadillac Lyriq is a great-looking car that is set on GM’s new battery architecture.
It comes with a single motor rear-wheel drive that promises to offer up to 312 miles of range. You can also get the Lyriq with the dual motor all-wheel drive version.
While the Cadillac Lyriq doesn’t offer the same amount of interior space as its other larger SUVs, you still get decent space for passengers and luggage.
The interior is posh and comfortable and the exterior looks stylish and elegant. Of course, Cadillac focused its build and design on comfort over performance.
The Cadillac Lyriq has an MRSP of $59,000. This price, however, is for the single motor rear-wheel drive. However, you’ll probably be better off with the more powerful dual-motor AWD.
That has over 500 HP and lets you tow upwards of 3500 pounds.
The Cadillac Lyriq is set to compete with some already well-established brands which include the Audi e-tron and the Tesla Model X.
You will get the Cadillac Lyriq as standard with the rear motor that comes as a rear-wheel drive. For a bit extra, you can have the second motor installed in the front wheels. This helps provide more power.
While the standard model trim feels responsive to the touch with its 312 HP, it performs well on turns and its acceleration is decent. However, if you want to get the same level of acceleration that you will do with the Model X or the Audi e-tron, you will need the dual motor trim.
The Cadillac Lyriq lets you make the most of the time on smooth roads as the suspension feels comfortable. However, it can feel a bit hard on rocky terrain or when driving off-road.
The braking system allows for single-foot driving. This simply means that by taking off the pedal from the acceleration, the car begins to slow down significantly that there isn’t any need to use the brakes.

General Motors’ new battery technology called Ultium allows for scalability. This means that the company will be able to procure batteries in varying capacities from 50kWh to 200kWh. The larger capacity, however, is likely to be reserved for the larger EV trucks.
The Lyriq has a battery capacity of 102kWh. This is in the single motor rear-wheel drive vehicle that has a range of 312 miles. This battery also allows for quick DC charging. But you are also able to charge from your home port.
The Cadillac Lyriq has a plush interior with leather as well as wood and metallic accents all over the interior. This certainly gives the driver that luxurious feel.
There is also plenty of space for passengers. As far as storage goes, you can find storage space when the driver and the passenger sears.
This is not available under the front hood though which means that the Lyriq is not the best when looking for a car that has plenty of cargo space.
Other than that, you will also get notice cancellation technology even while there is no motor under the hood. This helps to block out road noise resulting in a quiet and serene driving experience.
The Cadillac Lyriq has a rich infotainment system. For one, there is the huge 33-inch display that is also curved at the center of the dashboard. This will function as both the driver’s gauge and as the infotainment system.
There is also a knob that allows the driver to control the screen. If you are not fond of touch screens then you will definitely love this feature.
And that’s not all, you can also choose between Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto as well as make the most Wi-Fi hotspot.
Many people wonder if is Cadillac GM or does GM own Cadillac. Yes, General Motors own Cadillac. While the company is among the pioneers of America’s automotive industry and is almost as old as General Motors, the company was bought by GM in 1909. It is now a division of General Motors.
The make of a car is often something that is confused with the model of the car. They are however two different things. The make of the car refers to the vehicle’s brand. For instance, Mercedes is a brand and is also the make, the model, on the other hand, SLS is the model.
GM stands for General Motors and is an American automotive company whose headquarters are based in In Detroit Michigan.
GM and Chevy are not the same. General Motors is the parent company of Chevrolet. It also owns Buick, GMC, and Cadillac.
